PTA Supported Programs and Events

Kindergarten Orientation
The PTA helps the Greenwood staff as they conduct a springtime orientation for next year’s kindergartners and welcome new parents into the Greenwood family.

Math Facts/Gator Raiders
Helping students in all grades master their math facts.

Handwriting Without Tears
Helping our youngsters master the art of handwriting, using the national Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. This is a wonderful program that uses a variety of approaches to help children learn to form their letters and manipulate their pencils.

Innisbrook Gift Wrap Fundraising
Our biggest fundraiser of the year has helped to fund:

  • Filming and recording equipment for GGTV Studio (our own in-school TV studio)
  • Recording equipment for Music Department
  • Artist in Residency Program (An artist guided project for students. The artwork in the hallways of Greenwood shows previous program projects.)
  • Safety, Cultural Arts, and Author’s Assemblies
  • The Greenwood Gator on the gym floor
  • Musical Instruments
  • Greenwood’s newest courtyard, along with tables, the chalkboard, the arbor, and plantings
  • Carpets for Classrooms
  • White Books for Authors Teas
  • Outreach Program (scholarships for Field trips)
  • Awards and incentive programs
  • Instructional Enrichment for classrooms of $250.00 per full time staff
  • Donations to school to supplement purchases of needed items and equipment

Birthday Board
We take photos and display them on our famous birthday board! At the end of the month, your child will be able to take the photo home.

Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is held at various times during the school year. Many quality books are available to encourage your child to read.

Courtyard & Grounds Beautification
We have 2 beautiful courtyards that the PTA helps to maintain by planting, weeding and mulching.

Craft Night
This evening in November is a fun and popular night for all! PTA volunteers assist children with preparation, distribution and creation of wonderful crafts for the holiday season.

Earth Week
Week long activities in April celebrating our earth and teaching our children to care for its beauty and health.

Emergency Supplies Distribution
Each year, the PTA provides snacks and water bottles to all classrooms. These are set aside in case there’s an emergency in which our children may be confined to their classrooms for a long period of time.

Family Fun Nights
Celebrate and build friendships with the entire Greenwood community! Have lots of fun at the Back-to-School Picnic/Movie On The Hill,  Skate Night, Bingo, and Dance Night!

Fifth-Grade Recognition
Celebrating the completion of 5th grade! A wonderful ceremony for the soon-to-be middle schoolers.

Health Week
Our annual Health Week activities in November raise awareness for various health issues. Past themes have included asthma, diabetes and nutrition. Activities occur during the school day.

Hearing & Vision Screening
Volunteers escort students from their classrooms to the screening area.

Hospitality
The PTA provides drinks and other goodies for different events throughout the school year.

International Night
A May celebration of our students’ cultural heritage.

Jump Rope For Heart
Held during P.E. classes for a week, Jump Rope For Heart is a national community service project that Greenwood participates in each February.

Literary Magazine
Greenwood’s literary magazine, “The Gator’s Gallery,” is a showcase for our school’s budding writers and illustrators. “The Gator’s Gallery” is published two to three times a year. Volunteers  help with digitizing the students’ contributions, copying and collating.

Lunch Bunch
Students meet once a week in a small group to help them master their math facts. Volunteers work with students to make learning math fun.

Membership/Directory Assistance
A guidebook to Greenwood’s families! Dedicated volunteers sort and copy forms, call families who haven’t sent in forms, gather data for the directory, proof read and/or edit the directory, and more.

P.E. Field Day
Our annual springtime event, working with the P.E. teacher to coordinate and implement activities, which is held during the school day.

P.E. Gymnastics Unit
Our ever-popular gymnastics unit during the winter months. Parent volunteers assist the P.E. teacher during each gym class to help the children climb ropes, walk on the balance beam, jump on the vault and more!

Pictures – Individual School Pictures
Volunteers escort the students to and from their classrooms on fall Picture Day.

Reading Programs for K, 3rd-4th grade:
Volunteers spend a morning during the school year helping with Greenwood’s reading enrichment programs.  They spend an hour each week, each month or just one-time helping children pick out books, take reading comprehension tests and record their results. Programs are: Read to Me, Talk with Me (kindergarten) and Accelerated Reader (3rd & 4th Grades).

Room Parents
Plan and organize the Halloween and Valentine’s parties for student’s classrooms.

Spirit Wear
Organizing and distributing specially designed clothing and other items featuring our Greenwood Gator logo.

Spring Fair
Our annual Spring Fair, held each year on a Saturday in April!
Many volunteers shop, set-up, clean-up, compile baskets, sell tickets, make copies, run the games and more!

Staff Appreciation Week
A week’s worth of activities and special events in April to show Greenwood’s amazing staff how much they are appreciated.

Variety Show
Our yearly talent extravaganza in early spring! Coordinators and students to prepare for this with enthusiastic practices and dress rehearsals. Volunteers help with the 5th-grade performance, coordinating K through 4th-grade performances, producing the playbill,  selling t-shirts, selling concessions, and selling photos and videos.

Yearbook
The yearbook committee and volunteers help take pictures, create collage pages, keep records of sales, distribute the yearbook at the end of the year and more.
